A Monologue with the Æther

As usually, I get an early start, up with the sun and on the road within an hour. Lakeview, Oregon is less than 15 miles from the Oregon-California state line. For much of my ride, I travel the eastern shore of a large alkali lake. Today, that lake appears to be dried up, but when I rode past it in 1990, it filled its basin. It was a color that would easily be described as azure, such a bright blue. Right around this area, there was a scenic overlook.

I stop early in Alturas, California, because there does not appear to be much opportunity for finding lodging in this region in my visual inspection of the AAA map.
